Peasedown St. John sits on a ridge in Somerset about five miles south‑west of Bath, looking out over the old coal valleys toward the Mendip Hills. The village grew up in the 19th century as part of the Somerset coalfield, and traces of that industrial past remain in miners’ terraces, former pit sites and local place‑names, while the elevated setting gives pleasant views and a semi‑rural feel despite being close to the city.
Today it is a lively community within the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset, with shops, pubs, primary schools and active sports and community clubs; many residents commute to Bath and Bristol. The area was established as a civil parish in the 2010s, and local life balances its mining heritage with a suburban character and ongoing community events and initiatives.
