Cottenham is a sizeable village and ward in South Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England, lying to the north of Cambridge on the flat Fenland landscape that characterises the area. The settlement has a clear medieval core with an attractive parish church and a number of listed buildings, set among low-lying arable farmland criss‑crossed by drainage channels and lodes which give the locality its distinctive character.
Today the community mixes long-standing agricultural ties with a commuter and small-business economy, and there is a lively local scene of clubs, sports teams and village groups centred on the high street, village halls and public houses. Growth in recent decades has brought modern housing and light industry while local events and amenities keep a strong village identity despite the proximity of Cambridge.
