Axmouth sits on the east bank of the estuary of the River Axe in the district of East Devon, Devon, England, a short distance from Seaton and Lyme Regis. The parish is notable for its sweeping estuary views and proximity to the dramatic coastal landslips that form the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs, an area prized by walkers and birdwatchers and lying close to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage shoreline.
Historically the village had importance as a small port, and although commercial shipping faded as the river silted, the settlement retains a compact, historic feel with rural and seaside influences. Today the local economy mixes agriculture, small-scale fishing and tourism, and the estuary and surrounding downland make it a quiet spot for nature study, coastal walks and a close-knit community life.
