Irthlingborough is a small town and civil parish in North Northamptonshire, set alongside the River Nene and close to neighbours such as Rushden, Wellingborough and Higham Ferrers. Historically it shared in Northamptonshire’s boot‑and‑shoe manufacturing and later in sand and gravel working; the exhausted pits have become striking lakes and wetland that shape the town’s character.
Locally notable features include the reclaimed Irthlingborough Lakes and Meadows, important for birdlife and riverside walking routes including the Nene Way, and the site of the former Nene Park, once home to the rise of a local football club. Today the area feels largely residential and commuter‑oriented, with active community clubs, green spaces and a mixture of industrial heritage and wildlife interest.
