Bawdrip is a small rural village and civil parish in Somerset, lying a few miles east of Bridgwater on the fringe of the Somerset Levels and close to the gentle rise of the Polden Hills. Its setting of low-lying wet meadows and drained peat moors gives the area a particularly open, watery feel and attracts birdlife; the local landscape reflects centuries of drainage and agricultural improvement typical of this part of Somerset.
The village has a quiet, agricultural character with a modest cluster of historic houses and a parish church at its heart, and many residents combine farm work or local trades with commuting into nearby towns. Community life is centred on village amenities and events rather than tourism, and the parish’s history - from medieval roots through Victorian changes in land use - is still visible in field patterns, older buildings and the close-knit social fabric.
