Burrowbridge sits on the edge of the Somerset Levels in Somerset, at the point where the River Parrett and the River Tone meet. The low-lying, often marshy landscape and the distinctive conical rise of Burrow Mump - topped with chapel ruins and cared for by the National Trust - give the village a striking riverside character and a long history of flood management and water-based working life.
Historically it developed as a crossing and service hub for surrounding farmland, with willow, peat and grazing shaping the local economy; today it remains a small rural community with a pub, village hall and cottages, drawing walkers, birdwatchers and anglers to the wetlands. Layers of history, from the mound’s medieval chapel and Civil War associations to 19th-century river works, add interest well beyond its modest size, while nearby towns such as Bridgwater and Taunton keep it connected.
