Chedzoy in Somerset sits on a patch of slightly higher ground in the Somerset Levels, a few miles east of Bridgwater and close to the drainage channels such as the King's Sedgemoor Drain and the River Parrett. The village name is thought to come from Old English meaning "Cedd's island", reflecting its island-like mound amid the surrounding wetlands, and its history is closely tied to the long-standing work of drainage and flood management on the Levels.
The settlement is small and largely rural, centred on its medieval parish church, St Mary's Church, which retains historic features and gives the place a strong local identity. Chedzoy lies close to the Sedgemoor battlefield of 1685 and today combines agricultural activity with a commuter connection to nearby towns, while the flat, open Levels attract walkers and birdwatchers who appreciate the distinctive landscape.
