Langport is a small market town and civil parish in Somerset, England, sited where the River Parrett and the River Yeo meet on the southern edge of the Somerset Levels. Its riverside location made it an important inland port in medieval and early modern times, and the compact centre still shows historic bridges, wharves and narrow streets that hint at that trading past.
The area is rich in history - the town lies near the site of the Battle of Langport (1645) from the English Civil War - and today the local economy is centred on agriculture, small businesses and services for surrounding villages, with many residents commuting to larger towns such as Taunton. Langport retains a strong community feel with markets, riverside walks and events that celebrate its heritage and the distinctive landscape of the Levels.
