Shapwick is a small village on the Somerset Levels in Somerset, England, set on flat, low-lying fenland criss-crossed by drainage ditches and the River Brue. It sits beside the nature-rich Shapwick Heath reserve, part of the Avalon Marshes, and is well known locally for wetland wildlife, peatland restoration and good birdwatching.
Traditionally an agricultural community with medieval roots, Shapwick retains a quiet rural character and basic village amenities; it was also home to the former Shapwick School, a specialist boarding school for dyslexic pupils. The local economy remains largely farming-based, with a growing emphasis on conservation and modest tourism from visitors to the Levels and nearby Glastonbury.
