Puttenham is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Guildford, in Surrey, perched on the escarpment of the North Downs and lying within the Surrey Hills AONB. The surrounding chalk downland, commons such as Puttenham Common and the nearby Hogs Back ridge give wide views over the Wey Valley and make the area popular with walkers, cyclists and riders.
The village retains a historic core of timber‑framed cottages and larger country houses and has a quietly rural feel, with agriculture, equestrian activity and small local businesses forming much of the economy; many residents commute to nearby towns or London. Social life tends to centre on countryside pursuits and local community events rather than industry, so it’s valued for its scenery, tranquillity and easy access to outdoor recreation.
