Theale is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire, lying roughly four to five miles west of Reading beside the old A4 and close to the M4. The River Kennet and the Kennet and Avon Canal run through the area, and the settlement grew from medieval origins into a coaching and later light-industrial locality as brickworks and gravel extraction reshaped parts of the landscape.
Today Theale combines a traditional village feel with modern commuter and commercial activity: it has Theale railway station on the Great Western Main Line, business parks and distribution units near the motorway, plus pubs, a primary school and active community groups. Nearby former gravel pits and lagoons have become important wetlands and nature reserves, making the parish notable for wildlife as well as its convenient links to Reading and London.
