Theale is a ward and village in West Berkshire, set on the corridor between Reading and Newbury. It lies beside the Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Kennet, and is served by its own railway station and easy access to the M4 and A4, which together make it a popular commuter base for the wider Thames Valley.
Historically a coaching stop on the old Bath Road, Theale grew further with the arrival of the canal and railway and today mixes residential neighbourhoods, light industry and business parks. Former gravel workings nearby have become lakes and wetland habitats, giving the area a surprising draw for birdwatchers and walkers alongside a lively local community with schools, pubs and volunteer groups.
