The village of Carron sits in the council area of Falkirk in central Scotland, straddling the banks of the River Carron a short distance from the port and petrochemical town of Grangemouth and the Firth of Forth. Its identity was forged by the 18th‑century Carron Company ironworks, once a major centre for cast iron production and famed for the carronade naval gun; traces of the old foundry, bridges and workers’ housing still mark the local landscape.
Today Carron combines a strong industrial heritage with ongoing regeneration, local community life and links to the wider Forth Valley economy. It lies within easy reach of landmark attractions such as the Falkirk Wheel and remnants of the Roman Antonine Wall, and benefits from nearby green infrastructure including The Helix and its Kelpies, which help balance the area’s industrial past with recreational space.
