Polmont is a village in the council area of Falkirk in central Scotland, lying on the floodplain of the River Avon and close to the M9 motorway. Its development accelerated with the arrival of the railway and the village is still served by Polmont railway station, making it a convenient commuter base between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Today Polmont is largely residential with local shops, schools and community facilities, while many residents work in nearby industrial and commercial centres such as Grangemouth. The area mixes suburban housing with pockets of older stone buildings and surrounding farmland; it is also known locally for the young offenders institution, HMYOI Polmont, and easy access to wider attractions in the Falkirk area such as the Falkirk Wheel.
