Salsburgh is a small former mining village in North Lanarkshire, in the eastern part of the Central Belt of Scotland. It sits on gently elevated farmland a short distance from the older mining town of Shotts and is within easy commuting range of Glasgow and Edinburgh, which helps explain its mix of rural character and commuter households.
The village grew up around 19th-century coal workings and still shows that industrial heritage in rows of miners' cottages and local memorials, but after the pits closed it increasingly shifted to a quieter, community-focused social life with a village hall, church and primary school at its heart. The surrounding farmland and rolling moorland make it a pleasant spot for walks and for visitors interested in Lanarkshire’s industrial past and contemporary village life.
