Renton is a village in West Dunbartonshire, situated on the eastern bank of the River Leven close to the southern end of Loch Lomond. It lies a short distance from Alexandria and Dumbarton and is part of the wider Vale of Leven community, giving it a mix of riverside scenery and easy access to the Highlands and central Scotland.
Historically Renton grew around water‑powered textile mills and related heavy industry, and like many communities in the area it felt the effects of deindustrialisation in the late 20th century; today the local economy combines small businesses, commuting to Glasgow and ongoing regeneration projects. Culturally it punches above its weight - the village has a proud footballing past from the 19th century and a strong local identity rooted in working‑class community ties and the surrounding outdoor recreational opportunities.
