Blackridge is a small village in West Lothian, Scotland, sitting on higher ground near the boundary with North Lanarkshire and close to Airdrie and Bathgate. Its elevated position gives pleasant views over surrounding farmland and, on a clear day, towards the Pentland Hills, and the name hints at the area’s once-industrial character.
The settlement expanded in the 19th and early 20th centuries around coal and shale working, and in recent decades has become largely a commuter community with local shops, a primary school and a community centre. Improved rail links came with the reopening of Blackridge station as part of the Airdrie–Bathgate project, making journeys into Glasgow and Edinburgh easier while the village retains a strong local identity tied to its mining heritage.
