Abercrave (Welsh: Abercraf) is a small village in Powys, tucked into the upper reaches of the Swansea Valley on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It sits among upland moor and forestry, giving it good access to walking, hill and river scenery; the surrounding landscape of ridges and valleys is popular with walkers and those wanting an easy gateway to the park.
Historically the area shares the Swansea Valley’s industrial past, with small-scale coal, iron and quarrying activity alongside long-established farming, but today Abercrave feels more like a quiet rural community with strong Welsh cultural traditions, chapels and village amenities. Its economy is a mix of local services, forestry and tourism, and the village retains a close-knit, community-oriented character typical of upland Welsh settlements.
