Haddington is a small historic market town in East Lothian, Scotland, lying on the banks of the River Tyne about twenty miles east of Edinburgh. It was long a royal burgh and county town, and its compact centre still shows impressive medieval architecture, most notably the large St Mary’s collegiate church and a number of old merchant and civic buildings that reflect its long market and burghal history.
Today the town combines an agricultural hinterland with local services and light industry and acts as a commuter base for nearby Edinburgh. Visitors and residents enjoy riverside walks, a small museum and arts scene, regular market and community events, and the character of a close‑knit Scottish market town set between fertile countryside and the East Lothian coast.
