Map of the UK

Aberlady is a small coastal village on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in East Lothian, Scotland, roughly a short drive from Edinburgh. Its most striking geographic feature is Aberlady Bay, a wide tidal bay of mudflats and saltmarsh that attracts photographers and birdwatchers and is part of the internationally important estuarine system designated as a Special Protection Area and Ramsar site; the bay is also one of the earliest local nature reserves in the UK.

Historically the village grew around a little harbour and a maritime economy, and today retains a compact conservation-minded community with stone cottages, a village hall and local conservation groups. Tourism, birdwatching and rural small-scale services underpin the local economy, giving Aberlady a peaceful, slightly timeless character popular with walkers and nature lovers.
