Macmerry is a small village in East Lothian, Scotland, lying a short drive east of Edinburgh and between the towns of Tranent and Haddington. It sits in a mixture of agricultural countryside and former industrial ground, with easy access to the A1 making it popular with commuters while still offering nearby coastal walks and rural scenery.
Historically the village grew up around coal mining and a wartime airfield, and today much of the former airfield and pitland has been repurposed as an industrial estate and light‑industrial hubs, providing local employment. Socially it retains a village feel with community groups, a handful of local amenities and pubs, and benefits from the mix of long‑standing residents and newer commuters who value the balance of country living and good transport links.
