The Maesteg West ward sits on the western side of the former mining town of Maesteg in Bridgend, tucked into the steep-sided Llynfi Valley beside the River Llynfi. Like much of the area it bears the imprint of 19th- and 20th-century coalworking, with terraces, miners’ institutes and colliery remnants that give the ward a strong industrial heritage.
Today the ward combines a close-knit community and local high-street amenities with good rail and road links for commuters to Bridgend and Cardiff, while nearby hills offer pleasant walks.
