Ystalyfera is a village and community in Neath Port Talbot, in south Wales, sitting in the upper reaches of the Swansea Valley beside the River Tawe. It occupies a classic valley setting, hemmed in by upland hills and moorland that make it popular for local walking and outdoor pursuits while still feeling within reach of larger towns.
Historically it grew as an industrial settlement in the 19th century with coal and tinplate influences, and the decline of heavy industry has shifted the local economy towards commuting, small businesses and services. Community life remains strong, with a proud Welsh-language tradition, an active rugby club and a range of local societies and events that reflect its industrial past and rural surroundings.
