Treherbert is a village at the head of the Rhondda Fawr valley in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It sits amid steep, wooded hills and moorland above the valley floor and is the terminus for the local rail service into the Rhondda, making it a handy base for walkers exploring the surrounding high ground and for commuters heading to Cardiff.
The village grew up rapidly during the 19th-century coal boom and much of its character still reflects that mining heritage, with memorials and local stories that mark the industry’s central role. Since the pits closed, the local economy has shifted towards services, small businesses and commuter incomes, while community life remains strong with sporting and cultural traditions - rugby, choirs and heritage projects - forming an important part of social life and ongoing regeneration efforts.
