The village and civil parish of Swanland sits in the East Riding of Yorkshire, a few miles west of Hull, perched on a ridge with wide views across the Humber Estuary and towards the Yorkshire Wolds. Historically a small agricultural settlement, it expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries and still shows a mix of Victorian and later suburban housing grouped around a village green and pond.
Today Swanland is largely an attractive commuter community with a strong sense of local identity, active community groups, sports clubs and a village hall, while nearby lanes and footpaths make it popular with walkers; its leafy character and conservation-minded residents help preserve a village atmosphere despite close links to larger urban centres.
