Bonnyrigg is a town and ward in Midlothian, Scotland, about eight miles south‑east of Edinburgh. It lies on low rolling ground and combines older 19th‑century streets from its mining and industrial heyday with newer residential estates built as the town expanded in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Historically a coal‑mining community, Bonnyrigg has shifted towards a service and commuter economy, with local shops, schools and community facilities serving a growing population. The town retains a strong local identity - visible in grassroots sport such as Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic and in active community groups - and has seen ongoing regeneration to improve housing, public spaces and transport links to nearby centres.
